Republicans Secure 222 Majority in U.S. House

Republicans have managed to win a slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives after a final mid-term vote count shows Republican John Duarte the winner in California’s 13th Congressional District. Republicans now hold 222 seats in the House, with Democrats at 212 going into the new year.

Democrats won 213 seats in the 2022 midterms, but Virginia Democrat Donald McEachin passed away after his re-election, so that seat is vacant until a special election is held.

Seats in the House are the same as the 2020 election, only in reverse. That year, House Democrats held 222 seats to 213 Republicans.
