Congressman Hill: My “Power of the Mint” Act Bans Central Bank Digital Currency

Congressman French Hill has introduced the Power of the Mint Act along with Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D-MA). This bill would prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Hill says:

I believe under the Constitution that the power to issue a central bank digital currency lies in the hands of Congress.

This bipartisan bill will prevent the government from creating a CBDC that may weaponize the dollar to track and control where you spend your money. The government does not need to know where you shop and how much you spend—that is a basic privacy right for all Americans.

I am committed to protecting your privacy and am working in Congress to stop any and all efforts by the federal government to use CBDCs to spy on the American people and trample on our civil liberties.
