After a historic 14 rounds of voting over four days, the U.S. House voted Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California to be the Speaker of the House for the 118th Congress late on Friday, January 6. Arkansas’ 4th District Republican Congressman Bruce Westerman made the final nomination.
Westerman, incoming chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, and 2nd District Republican Congressman French Hill — who also made one of McCarthy’s nominations — were members of McCarthy’s whip team working on securing support for the speakership.
